Yeah thinking the same. Annoyingly I can go weeks with zero pain and then I get a few days of crippling pain. Keeping away from bread seems to help strangely enough.

So, here is a mad one. Last week, I was just sitting on the sofa minding my own business when I went blind in one eye. I have had problems before but this felt worse.

The cause? Old. So fucking old.

When you age, the 'jelly' shrinks and pulls away from the inside of your eyeball. Sometimes this tugs a blood vessel and you get a bleed. Go to hospital!

I am okay. But this is a sobering reminder that bits of your body really can just stop working. Because you are old.

I don't even want to think about that procedure. I am not going to google it either (I will).

I had my first eye test t'other day after my friend's 18-year-old stepson gleefully pointed out me moving my 'phone further away and then closer while trying to focus on some Gen Z video he was showing me. They said all was fine, thankfully but I will likely need glasses/contacts in a few years' time.

Seriously, eye surgery is an absolute miracle.

I was awake and it is an out patient procedure. It was less hassle than getting a tooth filling. They flushed out the fluid and repaired the damage with lasers. I was back home two hours later and my sight returned gradually over the next couple of weeks.

It was yet another reminder of the way our NHS turns life altering/ ending events into minor inconveniences.

You're a brave man honestly--I'd have not been able to go through with it! I hate the thought of anyone faffing about with my eyes. I can go to sleep during a root canal but eyes are a different thing altogether!
